Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle is a historically important castle in Nagoya, Japan, known for its magnificent architecture and rich history. Built during the Edo period by Tokugawa Ieyasu, it was the home of the Owari branch of the Tokugawa family. Although the castle burned from air rides during World War II, the main castle tower and Honmaru Palace have been beautifully restored. The castle grounds are also worth seeing with its beautiful gardens like Ninomaru Garden, stone walls, traditional tea houses, and amazing golden shachihoko—mythical creatures that sit on the roof. But, there are plenty of things to do here besides sightseeing. At the castle's main entrance by the east gate, you can begin your adventure into Japanese history. Inside, there are exhibits on Nagoya Castle's history and Japanese folklore. Plus, you can watch the Nagoya Omotenashi Bushotai samurai performers bring Japanese stories to life with their shows. Close to Nagoya Station, the castle is easy to get to, making it a great place to visit. So why wait? Nagoya Castle is a must-see in Nagoya city.

Fantastic 5.0
Highly recommended this experience. it’s an hour for the sweets making and 20-30mins for the matcha tea ceremony. Our teacher was lovely and gave good clear instructions on what we had to do. Both my boys 12y and 13y really enjoyed it and found the sweets to taste good. Thankyou for the great memories.

Our experience with VASARA Kimono Rental in Nagoya was exceptional. While this location had fewer yukata choices than I expected, the staff more than made up for it with their kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine care. I hoped to wear a red yukata to match my wife’s, but none were available. The staff went above and beyond, searching through unopened boxes until they found a maroon yukata with dragon designs. They paired it with a blue obi featuring a water pattern. They also dressed my wife and daughter beautifully, and transformed my son into a young samurai. Seeing our whole family dressed together was a highlight of our trip. Walking through Nagoya and visiting Nagoya Castle in yukata felt immersive and special. We received many friendly compliments and interactions along the way. The VASARA team didn’t just rent us clothing, they created a wonderful family memory we will cherish for years. Minasama, taihen osewa ni narimashita. Arigatō gozaimashita. Dōzo ogenki de.

We had a really lovely morning with Antero and Yoko! They were so kind and accomodating. Due to rain they suggested to shoot in Nagono instead of Nagoya Castle and the photos were fantastic! We got so many nice pictures of us and they even included some snapshots of little details in the places we went. Antero has so much energy and thought of a lot of fun ideas to coax some great smiles from the kids (and us!) It's easy to see that he is really passionate about photography. My 6 year old daughter really enjoyed the photoshoot and I know I will treasure the photos for many years to come!

What to know before visiting Nagoya

Quick snapshot of Nagoya and what draws visitors

Nagoya’s Klook bookings are led by theme parks, followed by zoos & aquariums, historical sites and observation decks, so the city suits families and sightseers who enjoy attractions and short tours. Demand swings through the year, with distinct busy and quiet months that shape when attractions feel crowded.

Best times to visit and how prices move

Klook data show December is the busiest month and August the quietest. Prices on Klook trend differently from demand: they peak around August but fall steadily into December, which Klook bookings typically record as the cheapest month while August is typically the priciest. If you want smaller crowds and lower prices, consider visiting in December or the surrounding lower-demand months; if you prefer peak-season atmosphere, plan for December when demand is highest despite lower prices compared with August.

Tips for travellers from Singapore

Most travellers from Singapore book experiences in Nagoya about three days ahead, with many last-minute bookings still possible, so a short, flexible planning window works well. For travel in the busy December period, consider locking in popular theme-park or zoo tickets a little earlier within that typical timeframe to avoid disappointment. Use Klook to compare available options and secure entry in advance when you know your dates.
